Romantically Challenged? We Don't Think So

Alyssa Milano Romantically Challenged? That's like Pamela Anderson feeling neglected at a biker bar.

Doesn't happen.

But that hasn't stopped yet another TV series spinning wild tales of beautiful actresses playing women who can't seem to score in the love game. Yeah, and all those models from Rebecca Romijin to Bar Refaeli couldn't get dates in high school. It's a myth for that most of us love to perpetuate but know in our hearts it simply isn't true.

As we ponder how Milano can overcome her obvious attributes to play the lead in Romantically Challenged airing at 9:30 p.m. Monday on ABC, here are some hot actresses that attempted to play down their looks for their TV roles as date challenged women.

Alyssa Milano, Rebecca on Romantically Challenged: Alyssa stars as a recently divorced single mom with three pals. Friends with limited benefits, it would seem. Rebecca's plunging back into the dating pool with minimal success. Alyssa was the teen poster girl for most thirtysomething men. We think anyone who believes her character could be even slightly challenged in the romance department is living in kooky town.

Liz Lee, Liz on My Life as Liz: This semi-documentary series on MTV supposedly blended the real high school life of Liz with some scripted material. The series shows this fetching young girl struggling for the attention of a basic boy. Basic Boy Bryson initially rejects Liz for a another girl who isn't exactly up for America's Next Top Model. So much for reality shows.

America Ferrera, Betty on Ugly Betty: Tossing big glasses and braces on America and putting her into ghastly costumes including a serape in the beginning episodes probably helped throw prospective suitors off the track. But underneath all of that was still the stunning beauty of America, who probably never had to beg for a date in her life.

Lindsay Price, Joanna on Eastwick: Lindsay played a shy reporter who had been abandoned by her former lover and found herself living in the small New England town of Eastwick. There, she had a major crush on a colleague who didn't seem to notice her at all. Hello. Even glasses couldn't hide those fabulous cheekbones. She could rock any guy's world with a smile, so don't act like she couldn't lure a dog even if she hung a pork chop around her neck.

Melanie Lynskey, Rose on Two and a Half Men: Melanie's absolutely adorable, but you wouldn't know it from the way she's portrayed on Two and a Half Men. She's been Charlie's stalker for years, the woman he didn't mind bedding once but never wanted to see again. Sure, she's a little nuts. But if you take HIMYM's Barney Stinson's Hot/Crazy scale and apply it to Rose, she's definitely hot enough for Charlie to forgive her loony side.

Kristin Chenoweth, Olive on Pushing Daisies: She's short, but she's no troll. Petite and gorgeous, Kristin played the lovelorn Olive, pining away for her boss Ned who ignored her romantic leanings. Pies weren't the only steaming treats offered up by this waitress with the rockin' bod. Did anyone really think she'd have a problem landing dates? She was hopelessly devoted to Ned, who only had eyes for childhood sweetheart Chuck. But we suspect that few men could avoid at least a few quick glances in Olive's direction.

Keri Russell, Felicity on Felicity: When high school jock Ben Covington signs her high school yearbook saying he wished he had gotten to know her in school, dateless Felicity chases her crush across the country to go to school in New York to pursue him. Yes, eventually she lands her man, and gains another admirer in Noel, but the whole premise rested on the fact that the glorious Keri Russell could have gone all through high school without notice by boys like Ben. Did you see the hair? The perfect face and body? Yeah, no one would notice Felicity in high school.

Linda Cardellini, Lindsay on Freaks and Geeks: Lindsay was a geek mathlete who became an Army-jacket wearing freak hoping to score with fellow freak boy Daniel (James Franco). And this outcast was played by the exquisite, classically beautiful Linda Cardellini, who also was cast as the frumpy Velma in the Scooby-Doo movies. Really? At least as Nurse Sam on ER she got the guy. In fact, several guys.

Stana Katic, Kate on Castle: She's a workaholic homicide detective who develops a bit of a crush on the often-irritating novelist Rick Castle. The set-up means that she'll eventually get together with the guy, but she's portrayed as a romantically challenged person who doesn't have much of a personal life. No one that beautiful is staying at home with a microwave dinner.
