Amid rumors that The Jay Leno Show is all but cancelled, there's this from TMZ:
"We've learned Jay's 10:00 PM show will go on hiatus February 1. After the Olympics, Jay will take back his 11:30 PM time slot. What has not been decided -- whether Jay's show will be a half hour, followed by Conan, or whether Jay's show will be an hour and NBC says sayonara to Mr. O'Brien."
There's no word on whether Leno is taking back The Tonight Show along with his old timeslot, and what this all means for O'Brien, who was promised the Tonight Show promotion years ago.
The Jay Leno Show has been a failed experiment for NBC; the network is now answering to its affiliates who are seeing the effects of Leno's dismal ratings on their 11 p.m. newscasts.
Expect TV critics to get to the bottom of this at the upcoming Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, CA. NBC execs will be taking questions from critics next week.
