We're used to seeing the diva-licious Mariah Carey act a little bizarre, but her giggly, boozy (?) acceptance speech at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Tuesday night was a little much.
While accepting an award for Breakthrough Actress for her supporting role in Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire, Carey jumped into director Lee Daniels' arms, then seemed to have trouble stringing words together into sentences.
"Please forgive me because I'm a little bit um, yeah..." she said before breaking into giggles.
She later described herself as "a little, you know ... difficult."
This is probably not the best way to get people to take you seriously as an actress.
Carey gave a seemingly random shout-out to Helen Mirren during her speech. Mirren did not appear in Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire.
Other heavy-hitters in the audience included Morgan Freeman, Marion Cotillard, Quentin Tarantino, Rob Marshall and Jason Reitman.
Before leaving the stage, Carey thanked the audience "for listening to my little spiel, and God bless you."
