Movies This Weekend That Might Interest You
Mr. Eric D. Snider is tackling Couples Retreat, but I'll opine that I think it's worthy of buying a ticket to and leave it at that. I'm still working on my review of A Serious Man. It's definitely a good film, but it might also be the Coen bros. most inscrutable work -- which is really saying something. I'll need to eat my vitamins today to effectively convey all that's going on with that one, and I'm going to have to summon all my skills to peel back the layers of that onion. Regardless, if you love their stuff we both know you're seeing it.
Press Releases of Note
The press seems to be a dormant volcano this week. We'll hope they don't erupt soon.
Sequel Rumor of the Day
Showgirls 2? Yep. Showgirls 2! This is not a drill, this is happening folks. We all want to know what happens next and finally someone is prepared to take up that gauntlet.
Quote of the Day
I do some stupid things, but my heart's in the right place, and this I know. -- the Eels
What I Watched Last Night Besides a Movie
Well, I watched Couples Therapy. And then the latest episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Charlie screaming "Are you going to put ALL of my plans under a MICROSCOPE!!??" was the highest of high comedy.
What I'm Reading Right Now
Snow Crash, written by Neal Stephenson. Evidently it was written in 1992, and yet it still reads like a futuristic take on where the Internet is headed. Stephenson is an extremely rangy writer: his book Anathem was completely different and yet similarly satisfying. I highly recommend both.
Deep Thought of the Day
Instead of a deep thought I'm just going to give away a few items. First off, two Blu-ray copies of Away We Go. I liked that film, and you'd be pleased to own it on Blu-ray. Email or @reply me on Twitter with your favorite Mendes film (and why) and if things break right you'll be the proud winner.
We're also giving away five copies of the new book about Kevin Smith -- Shootin' the Sh*t with Kevin Smith: The Best of the Smodcast. Same deal, your favorite Kevin Smith film and why. Easy, right? And if you win I'll send your items right out, free of charge, using our wonderful postal service.
Videos For You
I've got three, count 'em, three great videos for you today. First up, a very well done short on the implications of having a tough job. (Note: Salty Language)
Next up, a plea to get Tracy Morgan on Twitter. I've seen the first two episodes of season four of 30 Rock and I'll opine that Morgan is in rarefied air these days. Almost anything he says is absurdly funny.
Finally, a little music from the Eels to add spice to your life.
