The CW is sticking with its low-rated but buzzy shows. 90210, Gossip Girl, Supernatural, Smallville and One Tree Hill -- the little show that could! -- will be back next season. Who needs ratings when you have Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling?
The network also officially greenlit the highly anticipated remake of Melrose Place, which was originally a spinoff of Beverly Hills, 90210. The new series will reportedly revolve around the son of original Melrose bad boy Jake Hanson (played by Grant Show). Casting is expected to begin next week.
In related news, the network has hired a director for Melrose: Davis Guggenheim, who won an Oscar for directing An Inconvenient Truth. Interestingly, Davis is married to Elisabeth Shue, sister of original Melrose Place cast member Andrew Shue. So who will appear in a cameo first: Andrew Shue or Al Gore? Stay tuned.
