A new Friday comes out February 13th, which is pretty bold given that The Final Chapter came out in 1984, and The Final Friday in 1993. The remake lifts elements from some of the eleven movies in the series, so here's a quick run through the life and multiple deaths of Jason Voorhees.
Friday the 13th (1980)
In the first Friday Jason only shows up for about three seconds. It's actually his mom doing the killing, wiping out the horny counselors at Camp Crystal Lake, where Jason drowned years before.
Outcome: The last surviving girl chops off Mrs. Voorhees' head with a machete.
Fake dream ending: Then she paddles out to the middle of the lake, Jason jumps out of the water and drags her under, and she wakes up in the hospital.
Funny costar: Kevin Bacon.
Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981)
Jason goes after another string of counselors to avenge the death of his mother, who was avenging his death in the original.
Outcome: Jason's left for dead with a machete in his shoulder.
Fake dream ending: Jason jumps through a window and grabs the last surviving girl, and she wakes up in an ambulance.
Friday the 13th Part III (1982)
Jason kills some teens and a biker gang and, most importantly, steals a hockey mask.
Outcome: The last surviving girl buries an axe in Jason's skull.
Fake dream ending: Then she paddles out to the middle of the lake, Mrs. Voorhees jumps out of the water and drags her under, and she wakes up with the cops taking her away.
After coming back to life in the morgue, Jason kills a doctor, a nurse, and a bunch of teenagers.
Outcome: One particular teenager, called Tommy, buries a machete in Jason's head.
Funny costar: Corey Feldman.
Years later, Tommy is in an insane asylum where someone with a hockey mask is killing patients.
Outcome: Tommy pushes the imposter Jason out of a barn window, and he dies on a piece of farm equipment.
Fake dream ending: Tommy attacks the hospital administrator, then wakes up in a hospital bed.
Tommy goes to Jason's grave and accidentally brings him back to life when lighting hits the fencepost he's stabbed the corpse with. Jason starts killing camp counselors again.
Outcome: Tommy sinks Jason to the bottom of Crystal Lake with a chain around his neck.
A telekinetic -- yes, that's telekinetic -- teenage girl accidentally breaks Jason's chain, and he kills her mother, her doctor, and some vacationing teenagers.
Outcome: She resurrects her dead father, who also happens to be dead at the bottom of the lake, who drags Jason back down.
Resurrected again by an underwater electrical cable, Jason climbs onto a boat of high school seniors heading to New York City. He kills them, and two sanitation workers, and a cop.
Outcome: The sewers under NYC are filled with toxic waste, and Jason melts.
Somehow resurrected again, Jason is blown to pieces by the FBI. The coroner eats Jason's heart, and creates a snake demon Jason that can jump from host to host. Seriously.
Outcome: Snake Jason climbs into his dead half-sister's ovaries and is reborn as full-size hockey mask Jason, and he's stabbed by a magic dagger that sends him to hell.
Jason X (2002)
Jason in space! Somehow resurrected again again, Jason is cryogenically frozen for four-hundred years. Then he's woken up, kills people, gets turned into a cyborg, and kills more people.
Outcome: Robot Jason burns up in the atmosphere on reentry.
Freddy vs. Jason (2003)
Freddy Krueger resurrects Jason so he'll kill kids on Elm Street, scare people into dreaming about Freddy again, and let him back into the real world. Then Jason starts whacking people Freddy wanted to, and they end up taking on each other.
Outcome: Jason walks out of Crystal Lake holding Freddy's decapitated head, which winks at the audience.
Funny costar: Kelly Rowland from Destiny's Child.
