Box Office Predictions - July 27th

5. No Reservations $10.4m
The only audience for this is the crowd who sees every romantic comedy. This is based upon a great film (according to my friends at least) called Mostly Martha, but the rumor on the street is that it doesn't quite measure up.

4. Hairspray $16.2m
This was the box office surprise last weekend, and I see it doing well this weekend too. Great reviews and nice word of mouth will help just about any movie.

3. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix $16.8m
The Potter fans left me out in the cold last weekend but I see them returning in small numbers now that they've all finished the book. Or, alternatively, all the fans have already come and this is like every other movie this summer, one big opening weekend and then nada.

2. I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry $16.9m
It doesn't take a genius to see this will be hurt by word of mouth. I tried to get it all the way to a 50% drop but I don't think No Reservations is enough to ding it that hard.

1. The Simpsons Movie $43.5m
Well, clearly this is going to win the weekend, but by how much? I know there are many very vocal Simpsons supporters, but are there five million of them? This will get plenty of crossover too, but I'm just not fully convinced this is a dominant force.

Check back with MaryAnn on Monday. She'll have the correct numbers, promise.
