The summer season is in full swing and our DVD editor is pulling his hair out. He runs around shouting "Where have all the DVDs gone?" Sorry pal, they have gone the way of the Stegosaurus, lost without a trace.
Not this week folks. Sorry. But read on to find out about the:
1. Black Snake Moan
Mike Russell of The Oregonian loves it and that's enough for me. People in Oregon, as a general rule, don't lie. Also, if you want something a little more substantial it's just barely holding on to a fresh ranking over there at RottenTomatoes.
2. Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. Second Season
If only for the DVD cover. You gotta smile when you see Gomer. You just gotta.
This is considered a solid popcorn flick for a Friday night. They didn't include much on the special feature front so it's certainly not worth your hard-earned buying cash.
4. Monk Season Five
I've watched this show all of twice but I liked it both times. The problem is that it's on a network that I never check, I believe it's the USA Network. Twelve hours of entertainment though, that's hard to scoff at. Plus Tony Shalhoub had one of the all time great monologues in movie history, in a tremendously underrated movie called The Man Who Wasn't There.
6. Dead Silence
Rarely do you find critics and normal folk united behind not liking a film to the level of this one. Four out of five reviewers disliked it and only one out of 150 Americans purchased a ticket. You'd be hard pressed to find someone to tell you to see it. I'm not that guy.
That's all for now. See you next Tuesday!
