Leaving Anna's preserved body in Florida in their wake, the wacky supporting cast members of the Anna Nicole Smith soap opera made their way to the Bahamas this weekend to continue the cutthroat battle for five-month-old Dannielynn.
The players here are Anna's mother, Virgie Arthur (thank you to all of you who emailed to remind me that her last name is not Smith), Anna's lawyer and alleged paramour, Howard K. Stern, and a variety of media hangers-on. Stern is facing even more public heat since TMZ released photos of the inside of Anna Nicole's fridge in the Bahamas (at least that's TMZ's claim), showing a large stash of methadone supposedly acquired by Stern. Upon arriving in the Bahamas, HKS noticed a variety of items missing from the residence he shared with Anna and Dannielynn, including his computer equipment, drawings and paintings. He filed a police report, and the Bahamian police are investigating.
Further complicating matters, the Tribune of Nassau today published these photos of Anna Nicole looking awfully close with Bahamian immigration official Shane Gibson, the man with whom Dannielynn was left when Anna left for her doomed trip to Florida. Gibson approved Anna's application for permanent residency in the Bahamas, which now prompts questions of just how legally the approval was obtained.
Virgie Arthur appeared on Good Morning America today, stating that she believes "Larry Birkhead is the father. I don't have a problem with [Dannielynn] being with Larry Birkhead, I do have a problem with her being with Howard Stern ... I don't want possession of her, I want to know if she's in a safe place." When asked if this was just about the money, Arthur replied that "the money has nothing to do with that baby. If Howard wants the money, give him the money. Just give us the baby."
Stern plans to fight for custody of the baby. "Anna despised that woman," he told Entertainment Tonight. "As long as I have breath in my body, that woman will not see Dannielynn."
You can watch it all for yourself, as the exclusive interviews with HKS start airing on Entertainment Tonight this evening. So suck up the last shreds of dignity you thought you had, and tune in to rubberneck as the aftermath of this tragedy unfolds.
