In late 2015, Hailee Steinfeld and DNCE (a.k.a. Joe Jonas's new rock-ish outfit) were making some of the most uplifting pop songs on the scene. Steinfeld burst out as a solo performer first with "Love Myself" and kept the exuberance rolling in with "You're Such A," the best song on her debut EP, Haiz (imho). And DNCE intro'd us to the very fun, very animated "Cake By the Ocean," also apparently a new phrase for knocking boots.
Last week, the two paired up for Steinfeld's new single, "Rock Bottom," but the result was surprisingly subdued compared to their past dance-pop ebullience -- at least until the chorus kicks in. For proof, check out Steinfeld (an Oscar nominee, remember?) and DNCE performing this song on Good Morning America's post-Oscars celebration on Monday (February 29).
See what I mean? And to think she was ever so nervous that she "couldn't stop shaking" to be at the Oscars. Ah, to be a teenage Oscar nominee again!
