Around .3 to 1% of children are born with Unilateral Hearing Loss, or in laymen's terms, deafness in one ear. It might not seem like a lot of people until you realize that there are millions upon millions of births every year in the U.S. alone.
That means there are a lot of people who constantly have to remind everyone around them of their condition, which I'm sure gets super annoying. One woman came up with the most clever solution to that problem.
Imgur user raingoose got a tattoo of the ubiquitous mute icon as a friendly way to tell the world to not talk to her from the left, and it's amazingly brilliant in its simplicity.
"Be sure that I thought this through," raingoose said in the comments under her post, "and after weeks of [thorough] thinking I decided that this symbol describes it the best."
Since posting her image a day ago, it's gone incredibly viral, amassing over 2,500,000 views. Other people who are also deaf in one ear have responded with the tattoos they got as well:
Literal or not, these tattoos are pretty badass. ?
