Bill Gates has responded to Beyoncé’s shout-out in her new single “Formation."
"I just might be a black Bill Gates in the making,” she sings in one of the song's verses. "Formation" dropped as a surprise release the day before this year’s Super Bowl.
"I hadn’t realized that she did that until somebody in the office actually sent me a copy of the lyrics,” said Gates in a new interview with Wired. "I said, 'Are you serious? This is kind of a strange set of words here.' I’m surprised."
The song does include a lot of references to black southern culture, which Bill Gates might not be too familiar with. (It’s safe to guess that he’s probably never kept hot sauce in his bag.)
He did get that his name-drop was in reference to his immense wealth: “I guess it’s nice that people consider me successful."
And he couldn’t help from name-dropping his own brand-name Microsoft products. "I guess I should do a Bing search and see if there are more uses of my name that I don’t know about.” Smooth, Bill.
