Kanye West returned to play Saturday Night Live last night to perform two songs from The Life Of Pablo, “Highlights” and “Ultralight Beam.” It was Kanye’s sixth appearance as musical guest on SNL, most recently appearing on the 40th anniversary show in early 2015. (As host Melissa McCarthy learned, the 40th anniversary show only counts as one-sixteenth of a performance.) The performance comes on the heels of Thursday's Yeezy Season 3 event at Madison Square Garden, where he debuted The Life Of Pablo to a star-studded crowd of thousands.
For his performance of “Highlights,” Kanye brought along Young Thug, The Dream, Kelly Price, El DeBarge, and A$AP Bari, while for “Ultralight Beam,” Kanye was joined by Chance The Rapper and Kirk Franklin. (Chance was most recently seen taking the blame for the delay of The Life of Pablo.)
Additionally, at the end of his performance of “Ultralight Beam,” Kanye also took the opportunity to announce that The Life of Pablo was available to stream on Tidal.
Kanye also appeared in a pre-taped sketch with Kyle Mooney, where Mooney tries to return to his hip-hop roots by challenging Kanye to a rap battle in the hallways of SNL.
Next up for SNL are Jonah Hill and Future on March 5th.
