We already knew Channing Tatum is well-versed in the art of outrageously elaborate lip-syncing. And as for his dancing… well, let’s just say we got our eyeful in “Step Up.” And “Magic Mike.” And “Magic Mike XXL.” The dude’s a born entertainer; that’s simply irrefutable.
But in Joel and Ethan Coen’s new movie “Hail, Caesar!” we get to see Channing flex yet another new pair of skills: singing and tap dancing. No, he’s not dressed in his Beyoncé best this time around, but he is wearing the next big thing: a sexy sailor getup. #Bless.
In a new clip from the film, we see Channing channel his inner Gene Kelly (possibly in eyeliner?) for an original tune called “No Dames,” which finds his movie star character lamenting the severe lack of estrogen at sea. Channing told People the performance marks his first time ever singing on camera, but you’d never guess it -- unsurprisingly, he’s a marvel.
In a second new clip from the film, we get to see Channing tap dance his heart out as Burt Gurney, whom he described to People as “the kind of actor who has an outfit for everything.”
“He has his eating-dinner outfit, his soul lives in his hair,” Channing said about the character. “I think he’s kind of a moron. A lot of the actors in this movie are portrayed as morons, which I think is hilarious.”
“Hail, Caesar!” stars Josh Brolin as a studio “fixer” who’s tasked with tracking down kidnapped movie star Baird Whitlock, played by George Clooney. The film also stars Ralph Fiennes, Scarlett Johansson, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand and Channing's "22 Jump Street" costar Jonah Hill. So, yes, it’s a star-studded lineup… but can any of them top the doe-eyed Burt? Seems doubtful, but we’ll find out when the movie hits theaters Feb. 5.
Note: Please comment below if you have any guesses about a talent that Channing Tatum does NOT have. (LOL, good luck.)
