When the trailer for “Zoolander 2” dropped in November, it was practically impossible to count all the famous faces who appeared alongside Derek, Hansel and company. Justin Bieber, Benedict Cumberbatch, Joe Jonas, Penelope Cruz, Kristen Wiig… the list goes on and on.
But there’s one more celeb cameo that we may have yet to see: our fave California Gurl, Katy Perry.
As you may remember, KP took a break from her massive Prismatic Tour last July to film “a little cameo in a movie” in Rome. She was coy about the specifics, but we guessed it was “Zoolander 2,” which just so happened to be shooting in the same city at the same time.
Fast forward six months, and it looks like we finally have more evidence. On Tuesday (Jan. 19), Katy posted an Instagram video of her singing Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s “Relax,” the ‘80s jam that was used to brainwash Derek into killing the Prime Minister of Malaysia in the original film. Just as Katy’s getting into the groove, Ben Stiller himself appears in character and asks, “Hey Katy, could you not sing that song? It brings up a lot of personal issues.”
Katy not-so-subtly captioned the vid, “FASHUN WILL HAPPEN 2.12.16.” She also tagged the movie’s official Instagram page and used the hashtag #Zoolander2, so you can rest assured this wasn’t some totally coincidental run-in with Stiller.
The question is, will Katy suffer a similar fate as Bieber and the rest of “the world’s most beautiful people” who are being targeted by assassins in the sequel? We’ll find out soon enough — “Zoolander 2” struts into theaters Feb. 12.
