Dressing monochromatically can be a challenge. Wear all black and people ask why you don't incorporate more color into your wardrobe. Wear all white and you're at risk for day-ruining stains. Wear all red and you can guarantee that's, like, all anyone will talk about all day. There is one color, though, that is ideal for wearing from head to toe: gray.
While groutfits are not new—I wore them in college, though I was usually referring to a sweatsuit -- they have recently become popular among a more stylish set, namely, models and pop stars. Everyone from Gigi Hadid to Rihanna has gotten in on the all-gray look, which means it's time for you try it out. Luckily, the more layered the groutfit, the better, so winter is your time to shine -- or, y'know, pull off a muted color palette.
Here is some inspo to keep close at hand as you go gray this winter -- enjoy!
Gigi HadidSplash News
On the first actually cold day of winter in New York, Gigi showed us how groutfits are done. Her matching turtleneck and pants (GAUCHOS!!!!!!!!) plus the coat result in an ideal range of gray, as well as a totally appropriate outfit. The addition of gray boots is extra, but, man, I admire her dedication to the cause.
Kendall JennerSplash News
Much like her BFF, Kendall opted for a matching set and long coat. Unlike Gigi, though, she kept the gray all the same shade. One shade of gray > 50, TBH.
While groutfits tend to be centered around comfort, they work equally as well in more formal settings, as Zendaya demonstrates.

Kim Kardashian, too, knows the value of a dressed up groutfit. Kim's outfit features the most shade variation, which helps break up the proportions. Also, um, is there something about being stylish and gray turtlenecks I should know about? HMU.
Selena GomezGetty Images
Selena Gomez manages to pull off the look in the fewest layers. She adds a subtle gray accessory, though -- that charcoal bow! -- which proves this color scheme was very deliberate. Feelin' it, Sel.
Another turtleneck! Rihanna wins the most comfortable groutfit award—congrats, bb!—for her matching knit top and bottom. This outfit looks just as good on the streets of NYC as it does on the couch, which is the mark of a true success.
Oh wait, JK. Drake wins the most comfortable groutfit, which is great news because it's also the closest to my own interpretation -- i.e. includes sweatpants.
Go forth and get ya gray on, people!
