The planets are coming out to party for New Year's: This week, Saturn, Venus, Mars and Jupiter will all appear to be visited by the moon. If you're up early enough, you'll get to catch the whole galactic show right in front of your mortal eyeballs.

Space.com reports, "Weather permitting, the planets Jupiter, Mars, Venus and Saturn will be visible stretching across the dawn sky right along the ecliptic (the invisible line that the sun follows across the sky)."

The moon travels alongside the ecliptic too, "but ranges above and below it because the moon’s orbit is tilted 5 degrees to the plane of the ecliptic," the outlet adds.

"By dawn on Thursday, December 31, the moon will have glided over the eastern sky and snuggled up to Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system," National Geographic reports. Over the next few days, the moon will cozy up to Mars, then Venus, then Saturn, which will be viewable via binoculars or a telescope.

And just a heads up, stargazers -- it's predicted that the Quadrantids Meteor shower will be viewable on January 4, so there's already a lot to look forward to in the new year.
