What’s the key to Kendrick Lamar’s success?
The MC, who recently earned 11 Grammy nominations for his sophomore major label album, To Pimp A Butterfly, revealed his secret in a new video titled "Hard Work" released Wednesday (Dec. 23).
In the clip, Kendrick and a young man are having a great time hanging out together. But throughout the day, K. Dot’s stopped by several people: a fan greets him at the park, selfie-takers celebrate him on the street, and an older gentleman also shares his appreciation for the Compton spitter.
His young companion is clearly in awe. “You’re famous,” he tells Kendrick. “Nah,” K. Dot replies. “They just recognize hard work.” It’s a motto that’s repeated throughout: “Hard work.” It seems that's the key ingredient to take away here.
Part of Kendrick’s recent hard work has been with the community in Watts. Yesterday, he and the rest of the Top Dawg Entertainment crew organized a free concert and toy giveaway in the city’s Nickerson Gardens Housing Project.
