In honor of their 20-year stretch irreverently keeping the "feminine" in feminism, the staff of BUST magazine threw themselves a star-studded anniversary bash at the Bell House in Brooklyn last night. The evening centered around presentations of BUST "Golden Bra" awards, punctuated by comedy and music performances (and plenty of trips to the bar). Author Julie Klausner hosted the evening, which kicked off with a video tribute to the magazine featuring wishes from Amy Poehler, Tiny Fey, Amy Sedaris, John Waters, Courtney Love, Roseanne Barr, and even Tavi Gevinson. Golden Bra recipients took the stage to claim their awards throughout the night, including Gloria Steinem, accepting the"Queen of Feminism" award ("am I your token cissexual?" she joked, upon following transgender comic Murray Hill in the lineup), riot grrrl Kathleen Hanna, who recounted interviewing Ms. Steinem for BUST 15 years ago, actress/poet Amber Tamblyn accepting the BUST BFF award (she also performed, accompanied on banjo by her new husband David Cross), Daily Show creator Lizz Winstead, comedian Margaret Cho, and hip-hop artist Jean Grae. Comedians Mr. Murray Hill, SNL's Vanessa Bayer, and Jessi Klein added to the levity with stand-up comedy routines. On the musical front, Cibo Matto headlined and announced progress on a new album, Har Mar Superstar worked his goofy R+B charms on the room, and local girl AWKWAFINA reliably scored giggles with her YouTube hit "My Vag". And then, they ate cake. Photos of the festivities, below.
