Stream Beck's Groovy New Single "I Won't Be Long"

Later this year, Beck is slated to release his first proper album in five years (last year he released Song Reader, an album of just sheet music for McSweeney's). The new material is a set of acoustic numbers, which if they're anything like his mostly acoustic album Mutations, will be quite fantastic! But to tide patient Beck-ians like us over, today he let loose "I Won't Be Long," a new single due out next week on 12" vinyl and digital download.

Although the song isn't acoustic, it's five minutes of mid-tempo gold, with a host of windy atmospherics, drum machine sounding rhythms and Beck mostly singing about country-music stations, shoddy air conditioners and reiterating the phrase "I Won't Be Long" over and over. Is he foreshadowing his new album's imminent release? Probably not, but, hey you never know what a Beck marketing strategy entails.

This summer, Beck's also a busy dude, playing a host of festival gigs including Osheaga Festival in Montreal, the Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island and Treasure Island Music Festival in San Francisco. He's also slated for some opening slots on Bob Dylan's Americanarama tour with Wilco.
