Despite the threat of a summer storm, the only thing that drenched the audience at Unknown Mortal Orchestra's show, at New York City's South Street Seaport on this past Friday was a heavy wash of reverb-laden psych. Looking like locals in their uniforms of all-noir, the New Zealand-via-Portland trio navigated their way through a swirling set of retro-tinged compositions from their 2011 eponymous debut, as well as this year's release, II. Their expansive sound did justice to the venue's majestic waterfront setting, filling the air amidst hulking antique ships and the lower Manhattan skyline. Adding to the fuzz, Mississippi garage-rockers Bass Drum of Death joined them on this US tour, which wrapped up on Saturday, just in time for UMO to join Rihanna and Metallica at Roskilde, over in Denmark next week. Check out photos from the warm and moody Seaport gig, below.
