In Vampire Weekend's new video for their rollicking single "Diane Young," we find a whole bunch of people sitting at an uber-long table that seems like an homage to The Last Supper. But religious fare, this is not. A slew of guests have come to nosh with Ezra and co., including Santigold, the Dirty Projectors' Dave Longstreth, Chromeo and Sky Ferreira. Their dinner party gets a bit out of control towards the end, with the Chromeo lads getting in a verbal spat with drummer Chris Tomson, a dude smokes weed out of a saxophone (it does look like the ultimate bowl) and a well-timed silly-string fight.
But front and center the whole time is a person wearing a ski mask, which begs the most questions of this kooky video. Is this the real Diane Young? Does he/she feel self-conscious about an unwanted blemish? Does Ezra Koenig singing sweet lyrics directly into your ear have the soothing effects we've always imaged it would? You'll have to watch and find out and then use your imagination a bit.
Vampire Weekend is currently riding high on the success of their third album, Modern Vampires of the City, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. They're spending most of the summer on the road, playing pretty much every festival in the U.S. and Europe.
