MeLo-X’s GOD: LoFi EP lies somewhere in the gap between traditionalist boom-bap and transcendental post-future production. “Light + Space,” a quasi-instrumental track that marries soul, trance and drum and bass, identifies more with the latter. “It’s slower, the vocals are sparse and airy, the feeling is both eerie and natural,” MeLo says about the song. “We wanted the visuals to reflect that same feel.” With that in mind, the Martian Project directors filmed the video in a barren, snowy setting, far from the busy reaches of Brooklyn. “We matched the white landscape with slow motion to push this concept to a place that was both beautiful and slightly unnerving.” With images from The Shining coming to mind, we tend to agree.
