David Bowie Announces New Album, Releases New Single

When the Thin White Duke makes music, that's news. But when he releases a new album in nearly a decade, along with a single and video for his 66th birthday, you basically have history on your hands.

The elusive David Bowie did just that this morning, announcing The Next Day, his 30th studio recording, will be out via Iso/Columbia this March. The album was recorded in New York with longtime producer Tony Visconti and the video for the new single, "Where Are We Now?" was shot by Tony Oursler. And boy, is it classic Bowie -- a two-headed puppet sits in an art studio while old movie footage screens in the background -- and explores the singer's time in Berlin in the late '70s. It's got a Heathen, mournful vibe to it, but longtime fans might still find it catchy. Because let's be honest, it's David frickin' Bowie. The guy just made our year and it's barely begun.

The Next Day arrives March 12 and is available for pre-order at iTunes.
