Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein Discuss the State of 'Portlandia' With Matt Pinfield

Portlandia’s blend of sketch comedy and an indie-rock sensibility have made the show irresistible for musicians who are invited on for a cameo (see Aimee Mann, Joanna Newsom, James Mercer, etc.). It's also irresistible for us music geeks, in particular Hivecast host Matt Pinfield, who reunited with his '90s MTV colleagues Kurt Loder and Tabitha Soren for a segment on the third season's premiere. Returning the favor, Portlandia’s creators and stars Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen stopped by The Hivecast With Matt Pinfield to talk about growing up punk rock and their shared affinity for Paul Weller.

“He’s amazing. I want to get him on Portlandia sometime,” Armisen says, which gets Brownstein going immediately. “Oh, me too. I love him,” she gushes. “I want him to play my love interest. He’s the coolest, most handsome guy ever. He literally was the cutest guy in music, and he’s also aged beautifully, too.” Matt, who knows everybody, offers to put them in touch with Weller. Just like that, your favorite episode of Portlandia season 4 may have taken shape right here on the Hivecast[Download & subscribe to the Hivecast via iTunes.]

Portlandia Season 3 premieres on Friday, January 4 at 10:00pm on IFC.
