You can always count on the XX to bring down a party. And no, we don't mean that in a raise-the-roof kind of way. We're talking about straight-no-chaser Brit-goth depression. This morning, The XX dropped by BBC Radio 1's "Live Lounge" to send up Wham!'s "Last Christmas" in their signature style. The cut is anything but merry, but it works surprisingly well. The lyrics sound painful, the synths are trembling and somewhere, a New Romantic is smiling. Who would have known it'd take a brooding synth-pop trio to transform some Holiday cheese into something so catchy?
