Hive Five: Our Daily Listicle of Musical Musings
Earlier this month, Wiz Khalifa dropped his new album O.N.I.F.C. album and while the project fell just shy of snagging the number one spot on the new album charts, it nevertheless establishes the Taylor Gang top dog's place in the upper realms of the rap world. So with Wiz fever still buzzing strong, here's five things we gleaned about O.N.I.F.C.
1. It's All About a Marijuana Mood
Wiz Khalifa has established himself as the heir apparent to Snoop Dogg's role as the stoner prince of rap. It's no surprise then that O.N.I.F.C. is cut through with the smell of greenery. As he told XXL, "That's what attracts people to the music."
2. "Paperbond" Is the Album's Club Banger
Produced by ID Labs while he was out in Europe, Wiz has described the track "Paperbond" as being the album's "serious banger." Explaining more about the motivation behind the song, he also reveled that "the paper is what keeps me at it, that's what I'm really chasing the whole time."
3. "The Bluff" is Wiz's Favorite Song on the Album
Wiz has described his team-up with Cam'ron for "The Bluff" as being "the biggest dream come true for me." Confirmed as his favorite song on the album, he says that for his verse he attempted to match Cam's "Harlem swag" with his own "Pittsburgh thing."
4. Amber Rose raps!
Having dropped "Fame" at the start of the year, Wiz's future wife Amber Rose continues to suggest she's plotting a solo music career as she appears on the Pharrell-produced "Rise Above." Her contribution? A couple of catty couplets pondering why "these n****s ain't really doing what they saying."
5. There's Now an Official Wiz Khalifa Day ... in Pittsburgh
I also wanna thank the city of Pittsburgh for making 12-12 "Wiz Khalifa Day" in the burgh. Get stoned :-)
