Andrew Bird played the ornate Riverside Church in New York City this week as part of his now-annual "Gezelligheid" show. "Gezelligheid" (pronounced like "heh-sell-ick," but with a lot of guttural noise) is a favorite Dutch word that translates to something between 'comfortable' 'homey' 'friendly' and 'cozy,' but most Dutch speakers argue that English has no good translation for it. So we suggest checking out this gallery, from Hive photographer Nadia Chaudhury. As you'll see below, Bird created an atmosphere that was both grand and intimate. Later this month Bird will bring his show to Chicago's Fourth Presbyterian Church.
