YACHT Salute the Sun at Their Vibes-Heavy Brooklyn Show

Friday night, spiritually minded electronic duo YACHT collaborated with the Body Actualized Center in Bushwick, Brooklyn for a heliocentric evening of "film, yoga and experience" titled "Falling Into the Sun." Curated by multitalented, charismatic YACHT frontwoman Claire Evans (who is also a science writer), the program paired "experimental films tracing the arc of the sun and its light across the Earth" with a course of yogic sun salutations. YACHT co-conspirators Jonah Bechtolt and Bobby Birdman performed an instrumental live score for the night. Their intention was to immerse participants in a "an aesthetic and corporeal experience," and create a "sensation of being pulled to the center of our solar system."

The gorgeously renovated Body Actualized space was a welding shop in its previous incarnation, recently transformed by a group of DIY-minded artists into a unique, soul-nourishing hangout. They offer yoga, meditation, and raw food dinners, but also late-night dance parties (and on this particular evening, a sponsored open bar). The lofty, subway-tiled room was packed mat-to-mat, with projections on the back wall displayed upside-down for downward dog-oriented viewing. After the main event, attendees dissipated into a bonfire-illuminated backyard, where "crystal/reiki healing sessions" were offered in a corner. Hanging out barefoot on the treehouse-like deck, it felt a million miles away from New York City, and closer to somewhere else -- the center of the solar system? Perhaps.
