Rhett Miller - STOP/WATCH

The acoustic version of Rhett Miller’s “Out of Love” is a solid argument for why lovelorn tracks hit harder without glossy production. It’s also a treat for Old 97’s fans who welcomed the frontman’s return to a jangly sound on The Dreamer, his self-released and self-produced new album. Bridging his Americana roots with his recent solo releases, Miller’s 60-second stab at that album’s lead single has a simmering discontent that boils over in lines like, “I’m only happy when I’m singing sad, sad songs.” Miller’s guitar-playing hasn’t softened either, peaking at the end in a solo.
