Though Sonic Youth may be on an indefinite hiatus, Thurston Moore unveiled a new band today called Chelsea Light Moving. The new group is a four-piece consisting of Thurston on guitars, Keith Wood on guitar, Samara Lubelski on bass and John Maloney on drums.
"Burroughs" is the first single and is a 6-plus minute epic ode to beat author William S. Burroughs. Last year's Beck-produced psych-folk solo effort,Demolished Thoughts, found Moore in an acoustic state of mind, but Chelsea Light Moving have those guitars thankfully plugged back in. Upon first listen, we've realized how much we missed those squelchy riffs.
According to Pitchfork, we can expect a full-length from Chelsea Light Moving at some point in the near future and the Matablog promises a new song next week. [Stream and download "Burroughs" via Matador]
