Dirty Projectors' New Video for "Gun Has No Trigger" Is an Ode to Facebook and Gmail

Along with Destroyer's Dan Bejar, Dave Longstreth of the Dirty Projectors is one of indie rock's foremost purveyors of cryptic lyrics. So it’s almost a surprise that the video for “Gun Has No Trigger,” the first single from their forthcoming Swing Lo Magellan, initially unfolds with such a strict interpretation of his lines. Figures in the background, a “million” colors and “curtains spreading” are all parts of the lyrics that Longstreth unveils in the video. In a statement on the Domino website, Longstreth explains that his directorial debut was inspired by "the iconography of the default profile image used by Facebook and Gmail, and also the look of the classic Apple iPod commercials." Of course, there’s still plenty obscurity to render it a Dirty Projectors production.

Swing Lo Magellan arrives July 10.
