In the video for Santigold’s latest single “Disparate Youth,” the singer takes a journey on a moped without a helmet, a boat ride without a life preserver and hikes in high heels. Clearly she’s feeling dangerous these days. But more importantly, Santigold’s also abandoned the ’80s cut-and-paste clip-art aesthetic of her “Big Mouth” video, instead favoring washed-out, vaguer visuals. And there are no smiles here, but that’s what you’d expect from a song called “Disparate Youth.”
“Disparate Youth” is the second single from her highly anticipated sophomore album, Master of My Make-Believe, out May 1 on Downtown/Atlantic. On March 15, she’ll perform at the 2012 mtvU Woodie Awards in Austin, Texas.
