The video Pulp ended up making for their 1998 single "This Is Hardcore" was Doug Nichol's disjointed masterpiece of noir send-up and golden-era Hollywood clichés, a thematically unrelated piece of film for Jarvis Cocker & Co.'s dark and sexy song. But as one might imagine, when you have a song called "This Is Hardcore," you're bound to get some odd pitches. In this clip from 1998, Cocker explains to Matt Pinfield some of the more unfortunate ideas passed his way in preparation for the video, with one possible touchstone maybe best left unturned.
