Just last week, Deadmau5 (real name: Joel Zimmerman) called Justin Bieber a "meat puppet" and accused him of undeservedly taking all the credit for his smash album, Purpose. And the continued drama between Zimmerman and Skrillex, a one-time signee of Deadmau5's mau5trap label, lasted several months, with both sides taking shots at each other.
Zimmerman owned up to his erratic behavior in a Tumblr post he tweeted out on Monday night.
"[L]ike many other human beings, I’ve been dealing with some depression issues that i don’t need to go into detail with," he wrote. "Id consider myself far from emotionally stable, though, not unstable enough to know support when i see it."
Zimmerman took a brief social media hiatus, deactivated his Twitter account before relaunching it again. He said going dark was "a kneejerk reaction to something [he] say coming a long time ago" and that "deactivating social media for a minute has nothing at all to do with popstars or dubstep tryhards."
For now, it looks like he's enjoying a break with those closest to him until after the new year. "Then it’s back into the new studio, where ill just keep being me, and making music," he wrote.
"Once again, sorry for being a dick to those who are fans and supporters," Zimmerman closed the message.
The brief social media blackout lost him his 3.2 million followers, but as Zimmerman pointed out, that might be a good thing for him.
Zimmerman is also documenting the progress of his "new studio" on Instagram, sharing how he's already set up a "pentagram of awesome."
See you in 2016, Deadmau5.
