Nichols Robertson Appeared To Fire Five Or Six Shots Into The Air
After two Los Angeles police officers shot and killed a black man on Saturday, people gathered at the scene to protest what they said was an unjustified shooting. A video of the incident shows the officers firing several times at 28-year-old Nicholas Robertson as he appears to try to crawl away. The Los Angeles Times reported that L.A. County sheriff's department officials showed photos on Sunday and a video that appeared to show Robertson, who was black, holding a gun just before he was shot, in the latest incident raising questions about police use of force. Officials said on Sunday that Robertson fired half a dozen shots into the air on a residential street before walking into a busy shopping district. After police opened fire, Robertson fell to the ground and crawled away, even as authorities claim he continued to hold his weapon while they unleashed more than 30 bullets.
Paris Teacher Stabbed In Possible Terror Attack
UPDATE: French authorities now say the unidentified 45-year-old male teacher making the claim fabricated the story in an attempt to get transferred to another job. A masked man claiming allegiance to terror group ISIS stabbed a nursery school teacher in a Paris suburb on Monday morning using a box cutter and scissors. The teacher was injured, but is expected to survive, as the attacker remained at large at press time. No children were at the school at the time.
Saudi Arabian Women Vote For First Time
Saudi Arabian women were allowed to vote in municipal elections for the first time this weekend and at least 20 women won seats on 10 different municipal councils across the nation. Officials said 130,000 women registered to vote in Saturday's election, which is well-below the 1.35 million men who are registered to vote in the nation. A total of 978 female candidates went up against 5,938 men for places on 284 seats in the nation where women are still not allowed to drive.
Mosques Defaced Near San Bernardino Shooting Site
Two mosques were defaced early Sunday morning in Hawthorne, California, just an hour west of the site of the San Bernardino mass shooting. Members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Baitus-Salaam Mosque found graffiti on the outside wall of the mosque and "Jesus" written on a fence, as well as what turned out to be a plastic grenade in the building. Police -- who are treating the incidents as potential hate crimes -- also received a call a short time later that someone had written "Jesus is the way" on the outside of the Islamic Center of Hawthorne. Those incidents came after a firebombing on a Coachella Valley mosque on Friday.
Update -- Texas Fake Mass Shooting Drill: After two Texas gun-rights groups vowed to put on a fake mass shooting drill this weekend, a group of counter-protesters decided to have a "mass farting" march involving fart machines and waving dildos.
Update -- No Sign Of Terrorism In Russian Jet Crash: In a preliminary report on the incident, Egyptian officials looking into the cause of the Oct. 31 crash that killed 224 people aboard a Russian jet said it does not appear that the plane was taken down by an "illegal or terrorist act. Russian authorities have said an explosive device was put on the Airbus by the Sinai brach of ISIS, which has claimed responsibility for the attack. The statement from Egyptian investigators did not make any mention of the Russian bomb theory.
