County sheriff's department officials showed photos on Sunday and a video that appeared to show Robertson, who was black, holding a gun just before he was shot, in the latest incident raising questions about police use of force. Officials said on Sunday that Robertson fired half a dozen shots into the air on a residential street before walking into a busy shopping district. After police opened fire, Robertson fell to the ground and crawled away, even as authorities claim he continued to hold his weapon while they unleashed more than 30 bullets.

Police -- who are treating the incidents as potential hate crimes -- also received a call a short time later that someone had written "Jesus is the way" on the outside of the Islamic Center of Hawthorne. Those incidents came after a firebombing on a Coachella Valley mosque on Friday.
