Did Ed Sheeran Quit Social Media Already?

'See you all next autumn, and thank you for being awesome.'

Tweeters, get your last-minute DM-sliding with Ed Sheeran in now.

The Grammy-nominated "Thinking Out Loud" singer previously announced plans to go on a total social media blackout beginning January 1, 2016, but now it looks like he might've called it (temporary) quits already.

Ed posted a note on his Instagram Saturday night that made it clear, in no uncertain terms, that he's powering down for the next several months.

"I've had such an amazing ride over the last 5 years but I find myself seeing the world through a screen and not my eyes," he wrote, "so I'm taking this opportunity of me not having to be anywhere or do anything to travel the world and see everything I missed."

OK, Ed, you may be saying, I certainly respect your decision and think you've earned it, especially after touring extensively behind your second album, x, for a year and a half pretty much nonstop. But what about some new music, eh? It's been so long!

He's got a plan for that, too.

"To my fans, the 3rd album is on its way and is the best thing I have made thus far," Ed continued. "See you all next autumn, and thank you for being awesome."

Part of the reason for his seemingly rushed off-the-grid time may be his upcoming surgery to repair a burst ear drum, an injury Ed sustained when he "stupidly jumped off a yacht really high up and smashed it," as he said last week. His world tour just ended on Saturday night in New Zealand, too.

Well, Ed, there's nothing more to do now than take it easy. Or if you get bored and need some suggestions besides traveling, we've got 22 of them right here.
