The 17 Best Movie Posters Of 2015
Most of us decide whether or not we're going to see a movie based on trailers, reviews, or word of mouth But the movie poster still has a special place in that process, especially if it's the kind of poster you end up seeing on bus stops and billboards everywhere. and sometimes, those posters are so amazing that they're practically works of art themselves.
Now that 2015 is almost over, let's take a look back at all the posters that shocked, delighted and excited us this year:
Say what you want about the "Fifty Shades" phenomenon as a whole, but this poster for the film really drew us in.
This poster looks like a perfect magical Anne Leibowitz photoshoot and I want to live inside it forever.
"Joy"
AKA, the one where Jennifer Lawrence is kinda the shark from "Jaws." Now you can't unsee that, and you're welcome.
Despite its ability to get that one song from "Les Miserables" totally stuck in our head for the rest of the day (or perhaps because of it?), this poster is amazing -- and makes us want to see more of Mars than what we're glimpsing in Matt Damon's helmet.
Tell me that just the iconic, updated "Jurassic Park" logo doesn't feel you with feelings of nostalgia and wonderment. I dare you. Later posters showed us some better glimpses at the stars and the dinosaurs, sure, but this is the one that first captured our hearts and got us pumped for more.
"Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials"
Oh man, does this poster really hit home how treacherous the Scorch actually is. Every time you see it you worry that all the kids are going to drop very unexpectedly to their dooms.
It's not often you get to see a female action hero really take charge, and Tris does that excellently here.
This was one of the beautiful posters that fans got to take home with them if they went to "Avengers: Age Of Ultron," and it really should have been the real poster for the movie if you ask us. It's like a fun Where's Waldo of superheroes! Look, there's Hawkeye in the corner!
Recreating a Parent Advisory sticker with the movie's title was a genius move, especially considering that "Straight Outta Compton" was the first hip-hop album to ever get a sticker like that put on its cover.
"Dope"
This is the sort of poster that you'd kill to have on your wall even if you didn't know a single thing about the movie -- and if you do, you'd probably kill even more.
Anna Kendrick's confident pose was so badass -- and so not a stereotypical sexy pose like they wanted her to do -- that it inspired a trending hashtag full of awesome, inspiring ladies.
"Ant-Man"
"Ant-Man" didn't get the same passionate fanfare that "Avengers: Age Of Ultron" did, but they sure had a lot of fun spoofing the Avengers in this adorable series of shrunken posters.
Just like the film itself, this poster is hauntingly, strikingly, creepily beautiful -- even without the presence of everybody's fancy gothic boyfriend, Tom Hiddleston.
YEAH, HE IS. No, but seriously this poster is everything. Dancing shirtless Channing Tatum! Beautiful sensual darkness! A hilarious sexual innuendo! All it needs is somewhere for Jada Pinkett Smith to call us "Queen" and this would've been number one.
That one poster of the entire crew staring into their destiny was pretty great, but this one, which lets us peak in on what feels like an intimate moment between Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and Brian O'Connor (Paul Walker), definitely dealt the most emotional damage. Did someone start playing "See You Again" or am I just hearing it in my imagination right now?
Let's face it: if there weren't a gorgeously hand-drawn poster by artist Drew Struzan, it wouldn't be a real "Star Wars" movie. It might not be the one you'll see in theaters this December, but its juxtaposition of light and dark is simply incredible and definitely frame-worthy.
Both "Mockingjay" films did an excellent job of creating posters and advertisements that looked like Rebellion Propos and Capitol propaganda, but this poster of Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) sitting in President Snow's chair definitely takes the cake. Every time I see it, I get literal chills.
