Lies Presidential Candidates Told This Week: Yup, Donald Trump Actually Said All These Things

We're not gonna let go of the fake 9/11 story, Donald.

Somewhere out there the guy who tried to help Sanjaya win "American Idol" with his "Vote For The Worst" campaign is probably laughing his butt off about Donald Trump's presidential bid.

No matter how many bum notes, tone-deaf statements and flat-out lies the real estate mogul floats, Trump is actually polling at his highest level ever right now, lapping the rest of the field by double digits. That's why we just have to pull out another all-Donald edition of "Lies Presidential Candidates Told This Week." Though it's our job, even we could not believe some of his head-scratchers over the past 7 days. Here they are rated on our patented 1-5 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ scale:

There Were No 9/11 Celebrations, And We Proved It

The Lie: Trump has repeatedly insisted he "watched in Jersey City, N.J., where thousands and thousands of people were cheering" in c=celebration of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks. "I'm not going to take it back," Trump said when confronted with hard evidence to the contrary.

The Truth: As the above video from MTV News' own archives (and a second visit to the scene of the phantom "crime") proves, Trump's recollection is a fever dream, at best. To date, Trump has provided no proof to back up his claims.

Intolerance Makes Him Sick To His Stomach

The Lie: As BuzzFeed pointed out this week, Trump proudly proclaimed, "I’ve had the chance to learn firsthand about the diversity of American culture, and it has left me with little appetite for those who hate or preach intolerance" in his 1999 book "The America We Deserve."

The Truth: After kicking off his campaign with a series of racist and offensive comments about Mexicans and adding a sexist jab at Fox News' Megyn Kelly, Trump has recently appeared to mock a reporter with a physical disability, and, just this week, regale a group of Jewish voters with a string of offensive stereotypes.

Speaking at the Republican Jewish Coalition's Presidential Forum on Thursday, he made cracks about how much Jews like a good deal. "Is there anyone in this room who doesn’t negotiate deals?" he said. "Probably more than any room I’ve ever spoken."

He topped it off with yet another money crack. "You're not going to support me even though you know I'm the best thing that could happen to Israel," Trump said. "I know why you're not going to support me — because I don't want your money. You want to control your own politician."

Maybe intolerance doesn't mean what he thinks it means.

Obama "Wants To Take In 250,000" Syrian Refugees

Ty Wright Getty Images News

The Lie: Since we took Thanksgiving off, we're gonna circle back to this one because it's Trump's M.O. in a nutshell. At a Nov. 14 speech, Trump lamented the Paris terror attacks and then quickly pivoted to some anti-Syrian refugee rhetoric: "And when you look at what happened in that case, it’s just reported, one from Syria. And our president wants to take in 250,000 from Syria."

Forget for a moment that the alleged Syrian passport found at the scene is reportedly fake and that the majority of the attackers were European nationals. Let's look at that HUGE figure he quoted.

The Truth: President Obama has pledged to take in 10,000 Syrian refugees over the next year. Politifact tried to ask Trump's campaign where his super-inflated figure came from and got no response.

...Probably because it's totally fiction.
