The countdown to the big premiere of "Pretty Little Liars" is down to a little more than a month, and we're freaking out over every piece of intel that we can get our hands on. So excuse us while we overanalyze the shhh out of the new "Pretty Little Liars" cast poster for Season 6B.
Aside from the obvious fact that this photo is flawless -- Spencer's hair is clearly full of secrets -- there are so many clues to decipher. Why is Aria giving Ali major side-eye? And what's with all of the dirt coming out of Spencer's car? And what is she doing in the middle of it all?
We know a lot can happen in five years, especially for the Liars, so we're here to help unravel the mystery. What can this photo tell us about the upcoming season? Put on your detective hats, "PLL" fans, because we're digging deep on this one.
Are Aria and Ali at odds?
OK, so there could be a few explanations for this. The most obvious being that Aria doesn't trust Ali. (After all she put the Liars through, we don't blame her.) We know that Ali writes a letter to the girls at the beginning of Season 6B asking the Liars to testify on Charlotte's behalf at her hearing. Ali wants Charlotte to be released from Welby State Psychiatric Hospital, where she's been living for the past five years, so that she can take care of her at home. But it's not easy for the Liars to say they feel safe with Charlotte on the loose when they obviously don't. So maybe Aria is a little miffed at Ali for getting them into this situation.
Then again, from what we know about Aria's life five years later, it's entirely possible she has a lot of pent-up anger to deal with this season. Out of all of the Liars, Aria is the one who's been in denial about the things that happened in Rosewood. For the most part, she's found comfort in her work as a book editor, but coming back to Rosewood after all these years might just make Aria's feelings bubble up to the surface -- and we wouldn't be surprised if she used Ali as an emotional punching bag.
What's the deal with all of the dirt?ABC Family
That's a whole lot of dirt coming from Spencer's car. It's enough dirt to, say, bury a body. Yep. That's definitely what's happening. It's "Pretty Little Liars"; someone always winds up dead in the premiere episode. Unfortunately for the Liars, this particular body will have huge repercussions.
"This Big Bad has an agenda, and it’s to find out why this person passes away -- and to seek revenge on the person responsible," executive producer Marlene King told MTV News back in October. "And it will not stop until that person pays, and [the Big Bad] will kill people to get that answer." WHAT DID YOU DO, SPENCER?
Seriously, though. What did you do, Spencer?ABC Family
When it comes to "Pretty Little Liars," every little detail is a clue waiting to be speculated over -- and the fact that Spencer is the one standing (squatting?) in the middle of the massive dirt pile is a major red flag. Spencer must be involved somehow. After all, we know she has a penchant for shovels. If Spencer is involved, then we suspect the other Liars are too. We knew there were secrets in those perfectly glossy waves.
What is Emily hiding?ABC Family
Emily is clearly hiding behind Hanna in this photo, which probably has something to do with the fact that Emily comes back to Rosewood with the biggest secret. And she's been keeping it from her friends. It certainly looks like Emily is harboring a huge secret in this photo, but maybe she confides in Hanna? Ashley Benson and Shay Mitchell are so close IRL that we'd love to see ButtahBenzo share more screen time this season.
Why are Emily and Ali standing so far apart?ABC Family
Are the "PLL" Powers That Be trying to tell us that Emison is O-V-E-R once and for all? Because we're not so convinced. One of the biggest disappointments last season was Emison's development. They had something that was truly great and interesting, but the writers had to chew through so much plot that there were obviously things that didn't get resolved, like Emily and Ali's feelings for each other. Hopefully, Em and Ali find some sort of resolution in Season 6B. We're not saying that Emison is or is not endgame -- that's for the writers to decide -- but their beautifully complicated friendship deserves some respect.
In fact, why is Ali standing so far apart from EVERYONE?
If this were an Insta, Ali's position in the squad would read as "the girl who's in the friend group but not really IN the friend group." Are we reading into it too much, or are Ali and the Liars once again on the outs? And does this fracture have anything to do with Charlotte?
Where are they, exactly?ABC Family
It looks like the Liars are on a highway right outside of Rosewood. Hopefully, this means the show will venture out of Rosewood this season. As much as we love this sleepy little town -- otherwise known as Murder Capital U.S.A -- we'd love to get a glimpse of the Liars living their normal lives outside of town. (But please, "PLL." Refrain from overusing that green screen.) Then again, we're also really excited to see the show's new sets. For example, Radley Sanitarium is now a swanky boutique hotel because that’s not creepy at all! Over on the other side of town, Spencer’s barn got a hot, new makeover -- and it's currently Spencer's home while she helps her mom run for a seat in the Senate.
