NYCC 2013: 10 Movie And TV Panels To Watch Out For

New York Comic-Con might not attract the huge movie and TV announcements of San Diego, but that doesn’t mean you’re not in for four days of previews, screenings, and exclusive reveals. After the jump, have a look at ten TV and film panels you shouldn’t miss!

1. Warner Bros. Special Sneak Pilot Screenings
When: Thursday, 6:15-8:30
Where: Empire Stage 1-E

WB is lining up an interesting slate of new hour-long genre dramas for the next television season–here’s your chance to check some of them out.

Warner Bros. Television offers sneak peek screenings of the pilot episodes of two highly anticipated new TV series of the 2013–2014 television season — Almost Human (premieres Monday, November 4, 8/7c on FOX) and The 100 (premieres midseason on The CW) — plus an encore presentation of the pilot episode of The Tomorrow People (Wednesdays, 9/8c on The CW).

2. AMC’s The Walking Dead
When: Saturday, 6:30-7:30
Where: Main Stage 1-D

The day after this panel runs, the season four premiere of “The Walking Dead” will debut on AMC–meaning anticipation will be at just about fever pitch.

Join Andrew Lincoln, Chad Coleman, Lauren Cohan, Steven Yeun, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Norman Reedus and producers of “The Walking Dead” for a panel moderated by Chris Hardwick (The Nerdist, Talking Dead). The panelists will be on hand to discuss the upcoming fourth season of the series as well as introduce an official, never before seen, sneak preview. Content and language in this panel may not be suitable for children.

3. IFC Midnight Presents Zoë Bell and a Preview of Her New Film RAZE
When: Thursday, 4:15-5:15
Where: 1A10

Bell’s an okay actress, excellent cinematic butt-kicker and, by all appearances, an incredibly approachable performer. See what the “Death Proof” actress has been working on.

IFC Midnight pulls out all the punches presenting stuntwoman-turned-action star Zoë Bell, to preview scenes from her upcoming film RAZE. Best known for her work with Quentin Tarantino (including her starring role in DEATH PROOF), Bell is front and center in one of her biggest roles to date, starring as Sabrina, an abducted woman who, along with a bevy of kidnapped women, is forced to fight to the death in a bloodsport tournament organized for the amusement of a sadistic secret society. IFC MIDNIGHT will present a Q & A with Bell and the film’s director Josh Waller. RAZE will be released in early 2014

4. Marvel Television Presents
When: Friday, 12:15-1:15
Where: 1A06

Marvel’s focusing on their next wave of animated programming here, so while it’s curious there’s no call-out to “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” that doesn’t mean Jeph Loeb and company won’t be answering (or deflecting) questions about other shows like del Toro’s “Incredible Hulk” or “The Punisher.”

5. He’s Back! Celebrate Chucky’s 25th Anniversary with the Creators & Cast
When: Friday, 12:15-1:15
Where: Main Stage 1-D

This panel made the list because of all of the talent they’ve lined up to appear. Mancini and Dourif both seem to have a good time talking about this series and that should translate into a lively chat about all things “Child’s Play.”

Wanna Play? Join Chucky Creator Don Mancini as well as franchise cast members Brad Dourif, Fiona Dourif Danielle Bisutti and Jennifer Tilly, among others, as they celebrate the 25th anniversary of the murderous doll that launched a generation’s nightmares. Now, a quarter of a century since fans were first petrified by Toyland’s most lethal serial killer, the cast reunites to share their thoughts on Chucky’s deadly legacy and to introduce fans to Curse of Chucky, an all-new, unrated chapter of the chilling Child’s Play series (available on Blu-ray & DVD October 8th). Join them as they reflect on Chucky’s disturbing reign of terror and share some of the blood-splattered thrills and chills to come!

6. Bill Plympton’s “Cheatin'” & Kickstarter
When: Thursday, 4:15-5:15

Plympton is one of the greatest living animators–so when he’s showing off new footage of his next project, you better believe you should be there.

Two-time Oscar nominated director Bill Plympton will present clips from his brand-new animated feature CHEATIN’ as a work-in-progress. He will screen pencil tests and sequences and discuss the successful Kickstarter campaign that raised funds to complete the film, plus plans for distribution.

7. Gyo: Tokyo Fish Attack Movie
When: Thursday, 6:45-8:15
Where: 1A15

This oddity from Japan’s been kicking around since last year, so it’s nice that this adaptation of the Junji Ito (“Uzumaki,” “Tomie”) manga is finally getting seen by more U.S. audiences.

The country is being invaded by ferocious fish with sharp metal legs, hell-bent on death and destruction! Amidst the carnage, Kaori embarks on a desperate quest to find her missing boyfriend before he is lost to the mayhem that is sweeping the land. Facing four-legged killer sharks, machine driven squid and the myriad dangers of Tokyo, now an urban war zone, Kaori must find the truth behind these mechanical monsters and face an evil greater than she ever could have imagined. Based on the popular manga from the master of the macabre, Junji Ito (Tomie, Uzumaki) and the studio that brought you Fate/Zero and the Garden of sinners (ufotable), Gyo: Tokyo Fish Attack! is a bizarre thrill-ride that has to be seen to be believed.

8. Cartoon Network presents STEVEN UNIVERSE
When: Sunday, 4:00-4:30
Where: 1A23

A new sci-fi series from “Adventure Time’s” Rebecca Sugar? We’ll definitely be checking that out.

Cartoon Network is bringing a premiere of its newest original comedy series Steven Universe to New York Comic-Con 2013! Join a 30 minute panel featuring Emmy and Annie Award-nominated writer and storyboard artist Rebecca Sugar. Steven Universe is a coming-of-age story told from the perspective of Steven, the youngest member of a team of magical Guardians of the Universe. Series Premieres November 2013 on Cartoon Network.

John DiMaggio’s (“Futurama,” “Adventure Time”) documentary about voice actors is finally starting to make the rounds and it’s an excellent opportunity to hear the history of voiceover from the people who lead the industry.

9. I Know That Voice
When: Saturday, 8:00-9:00
Where: 1A10

I Know That Voice: The Documentary – Special Preview and Q&A! – Join John DiMaggio (Executive Producer of IKTV, also the voices of Bender from Futurama, Jake The Dog from Adventure Time, IFC’s Out There and many more!) in his first ever appearance at New York Comic Con for a sneak peak at the most anticipated film about voice over (in animation and video games) ever made! John will show a preview of the film and have a Q & A session afterward. Don’t miss this one!

10. Batman: The Brave and the Bold Screenining
When: Friday, TBA
Where: Paley Center

While we’re waiting on final details, WB and DC will be celebrating the release of “Batman: The Brave and the Bold” on DVD and Blu-ray with this special screening at the Paley Center. In attendance: Batman voice actor Diedrich Bader, as well as Andrea Romano, and James Tucker.
