“If you’re having a bad day, you have to look at everything else around the world,” Thorne explains, because sometimes, their are bigger and worse problems than you own.

Next year’s “Alexander,” directed by Miguel Arteta (“Youth in Revolt,” “Cedar Rapids”) adapts Judith Viorst’s 1972 children’s book about the titular boy’s not-so-great day that gets off to a bad start with gum in his hair and only gets worse from there. Thorne plays Celia, the prettiest girl in school, and is probably on the list of Alexander’s problems.
