It's Friday yet again! Happy Friday! If you expect today's Daily Geek won't be full of news about the new "Harry Potter" spinoff, you are going to have a bad time. Also, it's Friday the 13th, so you're probably going to have a bad time anyway.

In case you spent yesterday under a rock or something, the most exciting news ever has been released. JK Rowling will be writing the script for a new movie set in the "Harry Potter" universe. Do you know what this means? We're going back to Hogwarts! ...Well, not really. The movie is set in the early 1920s New York and will follow the adventures of one Newt Scamander, the author of the Care of Magical Creatures textbook used throughout the series. So, you know, art deco and the Roaring 20s, and wizardry. And New York... all that Jazz (and maybe, we do mean the genre).

Those who enjoyed playing the "Harry Potter" tie-in games will rejoice with this next bit of news; we're getting new video games based on the series, too, isn't that awesome?

Currently, we don't know much about the movie; however, the internet's jumped on the speculation like Ronnie James Dio jumped on tigers, and cut out some of the guesswork for you. For example, here's some useful information about what Scamander did in his life and what we can expect the movie to be reasonably about, you'll probably want to look at that.

For those already speculating who might play the new hero of the franchise, we've got a list of actors most likely to be rumored to be playing Newt Scamander by like, today... by the way, our money is on Misha Collins. Then again... our money is always on Misha Collins. We'd also like to point out that canonically, Scamander would be in his early 20s during this time... so it is most likely that someone young will be cast. Perhaps someone relatively unknown? Well, it is the "Harry Potter" franchise. They could pick a guy off the street and still make millions.

Also, while we're talking about casting... it's absolutely adorable how Evanna Lynch (who played Luna Lovegood in the original films and whose character eventually marries Newt Scamander's grandson, Rolf) is excited for the movie. Also, she wants to play a crumple-horned snorkack. We want this too, we really really do.

Is Ben Affleck in the new Harry Potter movie? Why, dear readers, we've solved that for you as well.

While we're on the subject of spinoffs, here's six other franchises that are ready for one of those. Personally, I'd love to see the Avengers spinoff! I think that would be fantastic. And the "Final Destination" one sounds like one very strange week of GISHWHES to me, but then again I'm still suffering from GISHWHES-related PTSD so that's to be expected.

And now, for some news that won't keep until next week...

There's a new "Thor: The Dark World" poster, and this one is for the great Odin himself and his pet ravens. The internet is disappointed because it's not yet another poster of Loki.

There are spoilers floating around regarding the second episode of "Agents of SHIELD" and you know, if you want them, they're over here. Just, be warned, they're spoilers.

The internet is in shock after the announcement that JJ Abrams won't be directing the next movie in the "Star Trek" franchise. Well... they would be shocked if they weren't too busy re-reading the "Harry Potter" books again.

Why is a photo of an empty warehouse important news? Well, it's a very important empty warehouse in Cardiff, where the 221B set used during filming of BBC "Sherlock" season 3 stood. As in, they've finished filming and put it away. As in, we're one step closer to the next season being a reality. All the people who joked that we'd get announcements of a new Harry Potter movie before we'd get season 3 are now alternately laughing and punching themselves in the face out of despair.

Remember when we mentioned a puny, insignificant little mortal petition for Loki to have his own movie in one of these Daily Geek roundups a couple of days ago? Oh, well, it's gotten way, way over 20,000 signatures since then. Maybe more. It's looking for a total of 30,000 before it's sent off to lands unknown.

Katee Sackhoff says that the rumors of her playing Captain Marvel have been greatly exaggerated. Of course, she'd love to play Captain Marvel, but that's far, far, far from a certainty.

That's all the news for today, everyone! Try to stay safe, don't go in elevators or on roller coasters or anywhere where angry ghouls may be playing a ghostly, murderous version of GISHWHES. It is after all Friday the 13th! You should be a little cautious.
