Hinterkind (by Ian Edgington and Francesco Trifogli, published by Vertigo/DC)
Issue #1 in stores: October 2nd

Myths and folklore are real, and once humanity succeeds in destroying itself, fairytale creatures return to claim the world that’s rightfully theirs.  That’s the hook of Ian Edgington and Francesco Trifogli’s ’Hinterkind’, a new ongoing that follows a few scattered humans as they fight for survival against faeries, ogres, and innumerable other legendary beasties. This looks like another home run for Vertigo, one that fits perfectly alongside ’Fables’, ’Fairest’, ’The Unwritten’, and their other fantasy-driven titles.

Shaolin Cowboy (by Geof Darrow, published by Dark Horse)
Issue #1 in stores: October 9th

After far too long of an absence, Dark Horse welcomes Geof Darrow’s Shaolin Cowboy back to comic shop shelves, in a new four-issue limited series.  This a book that defies categorization, a hyper-violent postmodern western epic, full of zombies, martial arts, monsters and chainsaws.  It’s really just one of those ’you just have to read it’ series, as there’s no real way express the unhinged insanity that flows through every page – it’s like nothing else under the sun, a glorious explosion of unimaginable action.

Letter 44 (by Charles Soule and Alberto Alburquerque, published by Oni Press)
Issue #1 in stores: October 16th)

A high-powered political thriller, an outer-space adventure, a tense wartime drama: Charles Soule and Alberto Alburquerque’s ’Letter 44’ is all these things and more, and based on the reaction around San Diego Comic-Con this summer (where a special advance preview of issue #1 was available), this new series already has all the markings of a major hit.

Pretty Deadly (by Kelly Sue DeConnick, Emma Rios, and Jordie Bellaire, published by Image Comics)
Issue #1 in stores: October 23rd.

Author Kelly Sue DeConnick teams with artist Emma Rios and colorist Jordie Bellaire for this new “supernatural gothic western” series about a mysterious woman riding the plains on a mission of vengeance.  DeConnick’s work on ’Captain Marvel’ and ’Avengers Assemble’ has made her one of the most popular writers in the business today, and Rios’ intricately detailed art captivates from the first casual glance – this title combining both their talents is a can’t-miss proposition.
