The mysteriously not-dead Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) is front and center in a pair of new stills from Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," which makes its debut later this month on ABC.

In the first image, we have Gregg and co-star Brett Dalton, who plays Grant Ward in the spinoff for the Marvel cinematic Universe. What's in the file? What are they talking about? Maybe it has something to do with why Coulson is alive ("Absolutely right, Dalton! The secret to immortality is just [mutters quietly] Mephisto... and voila!").

This is the latest TV role for Dalton, who's had parts in series like "Army Wives" and "Blue Bloods" with "Agents" offering him his first recurring role.

There's a little less to say about the second image, which features Coulson solo, framed very artistically alongside the S.H.I.E.L.D. emblem. He does look a little worried though. Maybe someone has discovered the terrifying, disturbing secret of how he cheated death?
