SDCC 2013: Inside ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ And Ed Brubaker’s ‘Crazy Ride’

Watch: Ed Brubaker Talks Captain America 2

Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is coming soon. A lot of people are excited about that. Among those people: Ed Brubaker, the man who brought Bucky Barnes back to life during his “Captain America” run at Marvel Comics.

Brubaker was the mastermind behind what’s easily one of the most celebrated “Captain America” stories of all time: the return of Bucky Barnes, long thought dead, reborn as a brainwashed assassin called the Winter Soldier. But Brubaker’s influence on the “Captain America: The First Avenger” sequel didn’t afford him any inside track on what Marvel Studios was planning when they revealed “Winter Soldier” at Comic-Con last year.

“They hadn’t made the final decision on the title of the movie until that morning, supposedly,” Brubaker told MTV Geek at Comic-Con this week. “Either that, or they were worried that I have a big mouth and I would’ve told you about it.”

If that’s the case, Marvel loosened their stance. Brubaker was invited onto the “Captain America” sequel’s set, just days before the first image of Steve Rogers slugging out with his long lost friend surfaced online.

“My Twitter feed exploded with people sending me a link to that photo — which is funny, because the day that that happened was the day after I’d gone to the set,” he recalled. “When it got out to everyone, I was like, ’Yes.'”

Find out more of Brubaker’s thoughts on the “crazy ride” that is “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” in the video below.
