Emmy Nominations: Yay For 'Game Of Thrones,' Boo For 'Orphan Black'

Game of Thrones

The 2013 Emmy nominations are in — and while it's a good year for the geek crowd, there are some notable snubs worth mentioning.

"Game of Thrones" is well-represented among the Emmy noms, better than ever, in fact. Peter Dinklage is once again up for Best Supporting Actor for his turn as political maneuverer Tyrion Lannister. Also up for acting awards: the Mother of Dragons, Emilia Clarke, in the Best Supporting Actress category and the Queen of Thorns herself, Diana Rigg, for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama. The HBO fantasy series is also up for Outstanding Drama, competing against the likes of "Breaking Bad," "Mad Men," and last year's winner, "Homeland."

"American Horror Story" fans have plenty reasons to celebrate today. The show's second season, "Asylum," picked up a nomination for Outstanding TV Miniseries, plus acting nominations for Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, James Cromwell and Zachary Quinto. Another win for horror fans: Vera Farmiga is up for Outstanding Actress for her work on "Bates Motel."

But as far as snubs go, the Oustanding Actress category features a big one: no nomination for Tatiana Maslany, who leads the charge on "Orphan Black" as Sarah Manning and countless other identical women. Fans didn't necessarily expect a Best Drama nod, but the complete lack of recognition for Maslany's versatile performance is a big surprise and disappointment.

Also snubbed: John Noble from "Fringe." The erstwhile Walter Bishop was reliably omitted from Emmy nominations throughout "Fringe's" run. Now that the show is over, Noble's chances of securing an award for his performance as the brilliant but fragile world-changing scientist are over. It's a shame that the Emmys didn't acknowledge Noble's work, one of the best performances on television in the last decade.
