Anime Expo brought plenty of good news for manga fans, and we expect even more at San Diego Comic-Con next week. In the meantime, here's a roundup of this week's new manga to pass the time between cons.

World War Blue

This week brings a new series, "World War Blue," from Seven Seas, which does for video games what Hetalia did for the Axis nations—portrays them as satirical characters with exaggerated traits. The plot is based on the game console wars, with two thinly disguised opponents, the Segua Kingdom and the Ninteldo Empire, battling for dominance and a host of characters who embody various video games fighting with each other. It's drawn in what I think of as the "wacky shonen" style, along the lines of Fairy Tail, and the series numbers nine volumes right now in Japan. Seven Seas also has a new volume for fans of the Alice books: vol. 5 of "Alice in the Country of Clover: Cheshire Cat Waltz" is out this week.

Tokyo Babylon 2

Dark Horse brings on the CLAMP with vol. 2 of "Tokyo Babylon," the story of a brother and sister who are fighting to save modern (well, 1991) Tokyo from various supernatural perils; the brother, Subaru Sumeragi, is a powerful magician and the head of his clan. This series is well regarded in its own right and the characters reappear in CLAMP's "X"; Dark Horse is re-publishing it in thick omnibus editions of over 500 pages, so you get a lot of book for your buck.

Tiger & Bunny 2

Viz has a handful of new titles this week, but my pick is vol. 2 of "Tiger & Bunny," the goofy story of competing superheroes who are yoked together by the demands of a reality show. The notion of superheroes being controlled behind the scenes by TV producers is pretty funny, and there's plenty of action in the manga, which is based on the anime of the same name. Viz also has vol. 47 of the long-running "Case Closed," new omnibus volumes of "Fullmetal Alchemist" and "Loveless," and, for Rumiko Takahashi fans, vol. 12 of "Rin-ne."

Digital's new release this week is volume 7 of "Vampire Hunter D," in which D fights monsters and mercenaries in order to grant a girl's dying wish and bring her priceless jewel to her sister.
