Universal Orlando Plans ‘Cabin In The Woods’ Maze For Halloween

If you, like Brad Whitford, are desperate to see a merman before your time on Earth is up, then book a flight to Orlando in October — because Universal is going to grant your wish.

Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights 23 is building a new horror maze for the 2013 edition of their annual celebration: a maze based on the Joss Whedon-produced horror film, “The Cabin in the Woods.”

“Cabin” director Drew Goddard is joining up with the Florida theme park team to create a new storyline and recreate the entire cabin — and all of the high-tech weirdness that comes along with it — in time for Halloween.

“We are building the cabin completely,” Universal Orlando’s Michael Aiello tells Zap2It. “You’re going to walk through a forest to get there. You’re going into the cabin. You’re going to go into the cube cells. We’re literally taking everything we can in the film and giving you a kind of best-of montage of the film with this kind of linking story.”

He adds, “You’re going to be in the control room when merman attacks.”

The maze casts guests as newly hired members of the Facility, taking them along a ride that covers the “Cabin” mythology and shows off a wide range of the monsters featured throughout the movie.

“My wish for ’Cabin’ was always that it would live on outside the film, that people would take that ball and run with it,” says Goddard. “I can’t imagine a better fit for what we were trying to do with the movie than to make a maze out of it.”
