The mystery surrounding William Fichtner's character in "Ninja Turtles" has been resolved: he's armoring up as the Turtles' number one nemesis, Shredder.

Fichtner confirmed the news in an interview with Huffington Post: "I play Shredder. It is cool. It's one of those things that came along where I thought, 'Really? Let me think about this for a minute.'"

"Then I was like, 'Yeah, OK, this sounds like a journey,'" he continued. "I'm very glad that it worked out, I'm really glad that I'm doing it."

Fichtner's casting in "Turtles" was revealed several weeks ago, but details on his character were completely shrouded in secrecy. When Deadline.com reported the news, they only said Fichtner would be "playing a lead with iconic stature in the Turtles' mythology." His casting as Shredder certainly lives up to that hype.

Many fans are weary of a Michael Bay-produced "Ninja Turtles" movie, but there's no denying the talent Fichtner brings to the table. Even when he's involved in questionable projects, Fichtner brings his A-game every time. He's especially at home playing bad guys and antiheroes: the complicated Alex Mahone on three seasons of "Prison Break," the scarred gunslinger Butch Cavendish in this summer's "The Lone Ranger" (which I may or may not have already seen, and his performance may or may not be one of the film's highlights), and the legendarily awesome Accountant in the criminally under-appreciated "Drive Angry."

In other words, even if the new "Turtles" movie doesn't live up to fans' standards, Fichtner is virtually guaranteed to bring the goods — or, in this case, the bads — as Shredder. We'll find out for sure when "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" hits theaters on June 6, 2014.
